Thank you so much! Replacing the ignitor did the trick! I didn't even test with a multi-meter - I just checked to see if the broiler ignitor works (it does!). I thought if that works, then it's not the safety valve since the valve supplies the gas to the broiler too. Anyway, you just saved me $200! (Calling someone in would have cost me $240!) and more (replacing it altogether would have cost an arm and a leg!) THANKS AGAIN! Hope everything stays working great! :)

Hi, my oven is acting up. When I turn it on, it takes a very very long time to heat up to the correct temp. This last time, I even smelled gas. The bottom of the oven glows orange (is this from the igniter?) What's the problem?

Hello. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter AP3873826. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. oven does not preheat. we smell gas . oven goes out. broiler & top burners work ok.

Jmanfre, You're on track, on target. the oven igniter AP4096256 needs to draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps or supply 3.2 to 3.6 VAC wires to the safety valve. If it doesn't you'll have irratic operation of the burner, and may have an occasional gas odor. Install the correct igniter and you should be fine. Thanks and Good Luck

My oven stopped lighting last week. The burners and the broiler continued to light, so I assumed the igniter was the issue. I ordered a new igniter and replaced it tonight. I tested everything to see if it would light and it started right up. However, after I put it all back together and pushed the oven back into place, the oven failed to light. When I try to turn on the oven, I hear the gas begin to release and the igniter clicking to try to spark the gas, but it won't light. Any ideas? The only idea I had was that perhaps the igniter was no contacting the gas for some reason, but I do not think that is the case as the igniter cannot be adjusted. Thanks!

Hello Tim. You will need to test for power to the bake igniter AP3104565 during bake mode. If there is power coming to the igniter, and the igniter glows, but the gas does not release, you will need to replace the gas safety valve AP5306380. If there is no power, test and see if the relay on the control board is sending out power. If not, replace the clock assembly. You can test this with a multi-meter AP3873826. Hi I have copy and pasted my question and your answer. This model does not have a glow ignitor, it has a spark ignitor. Please help. "Oven won't come on, I touch "Broil" and the fan comes on five seconds later sounds like valve opens and then closes 2 seconds later. Confirmed this by pulling out the oven ans can feel the click of the valve opening and closing. Dont think glow igniter is comming on. Why? I touch "Bake", no valve sounds at all, no glow igniters at all, information panel reads "preheating LO". Electric element gets hot in both cases.Please help, very confused thought I knew ovens. Sheldon, You were right from the start, you don't have glow bar igniters, You have a spark ignition system AP2990525 , you should be able to hear the igniters spark ( click noise) when you select a bake or broil cycle and temperature. Here are some checks to make at the gas distribution valve : First thing, check and make sure the power cord is attached to a properly polarized and grounded 120 VAC outlet. A proper ground is very important for the range to operate properly. You'll need a multi meter to test voltage and resistances. At the valve body terminals, with the wires labeled and remove from the middle terminal to each of the outer terminals, you should read 215 ohms resistance. With the wires reconnected, when you select the bake cycle, you should have a reading of 8 to 18 VDC across the red and orange wires.When you make a broil selection you should have the same 8 to 18 VDC,across the orange and blue wires. If all checks are proper replace the gas distribution valve AP3886450 If the voltages from the DSI aren't correct repalce the DSI sopark module AP5178660 located in the control panel. I need to replace the burnt-out round ceramic-covered oven ignitor and the worn-out bracket that houses it on this oven. The description says it replaces 'all' round style oven ignitors. Your customer service rep. Brent says this item does include the bracket (others do not), but he suggested I contact you to be sure it will work in this 1970s model gas oven. If you can let me know ASAP, I can then proceed with an order. Thanks!

Hello Joan. No, the correct igniter is AP2934763 and the bracket is discontinued and is no longer available. You can try buying a piece of sheet metal and fabricating you one to hold the igniter, using the old bracket as a template. Hope this helps.

burners work fine ,but oven does not lite , can it be the ignitor that is bad.

Richard, Yes, it could be an igniter issue, If the igniter is cracked or broken, if it does not draw 2.5 to 3.0 amps when it is glowing, it will not open the safety valve and there will be no ignition or heat in the oven. Good Luck and Thanks

The new igniter has different plugs than mine. Which one is possitive and negative?

Hello Chris. There is no positive and negative on the igniter AP3104565. This is a closed circuit. It does not matter which wire connects to the other wire, as long as one wire is to one wire on the unit, and the other wire is to the other wire on the unit. Hope this helps.

How do I take the ignitor off?

Hello Bill. Remove the bottom from the oven and access the flame spreader. Then remove the spreader and access the igniter. You will remove the screws holding the igniter AP3104565 to the burner bracket. Then you can replace the igniter in the unit. Hope this helps.
