Questions & Answers

Javy, Are you sure the belt is installled properly( no twists) and on the "flat" area of the tumbler, in the same position as the original belt. Check and make sure the belt is routed on the under side of the idler pulley and looped over the motor pulley. and the ribs face down towards the tumbler. Did you check, clean and lube the drum rollers and slides, while you had the dryer apart, and check the felt drum seals, make sure they're not twisted or bunched up and causing a drag on the tumbler. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Meko,
This sounds like you either have a bad run winding in the motor AP3094233 or the drum rollers AP5177441(four of these), or idler pulley AP3094197, are binding.

Hello Denise,
Normally when people hear a squeak, they want to replace the belt. The belt will last until another component opposes rotation and causes the belt to have to slip across the failing component. If not addressed, the belt will break. But if the failing component isn't changed, the belt will fail again very soon and you will notice the squeaking will be present as soon as the new belt is installed.
The parts associated with the squeaking are the drum rollers AP3098345, the idler pulley AP2911909, and the belt AP2946843(if needed). Sometimes the front support needs replaced if it is worn badly enough AP2996731. There is an excellent repair manual AP3873780 that will help in the disassembly and reassembly. It also helps in the simple diagnosis. Most complaints of a warm dryer where it should be hot is directly related to the exhaust ducting to the dryer. Think of it like this: When the heat cannot escape the unit as intended, the heat remains in the unit too long and prevents the thermostats from closing and this results in the unit seeming too cool. The drum rides on felt seals so if the exhaust is crimped or clogged, or even too long, this will result in the back pressure being too high and the pressure will blow past the drum seals and put all of that heat right back into the cabinet with the thermostats, heating element, drive motor, etc. This is not desirable as it causes premature failure of all parts exposed to the heat, lint, and moisture that should have been exhausted.

Hello Jim. Remove the bottom toe panel off the dryer front, by releasing the clips with a flat blade, and check and see if the belt AP2946843 is broke on the unit. You should see the belt laying in the bottom of the unit if it is broken. These are not to hard to replace.

Hello Deanna. It sounds like you will need to replace the drum rollers AP3098345 and the idler pulley AP2911909 on the unit. You can turn the pulley and the rollers by hand and see if they are worn or tight. If so, they will need to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Dennis. No, the bearings in the rollers are already lubed and if you use any other lubricant, it can become a fire hazzard around the heat. Hope this helps.

Asked by Don
Hello Don. Yes the AP2946843 belt could be the problem, but usually the reason that the belt breaks is either the rollers seizing up or the idler pulley seizing up causing the drum to be harder to turn , causing the belt to break, I would check those two things when you take a look at it, also I can give you exact part numbers with the correct model number, please check that and get back to us if you need more help , thank you and good luck !

Hi Socram. Remove the front panel and drum to look where the belt was looped on the center outer circumference of the drum. It will have outer marks where it ran naturally on the drum. Sounds like it that you had this mis aligned. (very common). Also the belt tensioner pulley mount will hook into the base on the L-end of the mount and the opposite end will have locator's tabs that hold the tensioner mount in place from moving out when you have tension on it. This tensioner may have came out of the base . The way the open ends of the drum are located inside the front and back felt and rotate will have a careful bearing on it all. While you are replacing the front panel carefully on the cabinet tabs and hold the drum onto the backside of the front panel can be tricky also. Get someone to hold the drum as you install the inner front panel in proper location. Once installed you rotate the drum carefully one way to see if the belt is still running true as the top is up. If it throws the belt immediately, then reinstall it and then try to slowly rotate it the opposite way while checking. You may need to do this a few times to get it correct. Do not give up, it is not easy. If the parts were damaged from improper installation then it unfortunately is beyond our control. The maintenance kit is part # AP3131942. Thank You.
