Hi,
I have replaced a defective start relay and start capacitor. Plugged unit back in and compressor started and runs. Top of evaporator coil frosts over but freezer has not got below 36 degrees and evaporator fan does not run. I know from earlier troubleshooting that the evaporator fan and thermostat switch are good. Could this be a problem with defrost board? Or should I consider replacing the compressor?

ANSWER Hello Roger. Based on the description you provided, it sounds like the system is either low on freon or is restricted. If there is only frost on the top half of the evaporator you will need an HVAC tech to do the repair to the unit.
