The bellows on my washer has a mildew or mold smell. It's terrible. I was considering replacing it, but some of these questions ask about removing, cleaning, and reinstalling it. I've tried the tablets that were recommended by someone at Sears. They made no difference in the smell.
Is it possible to eliminate the odor through cleaning? If so, what's the best method?
ANSWER Hello Matt,
You could run a clean cycle which is to run the unit through a normal wash with nothing in it. Use a cup of bleach and use the hottest temp setting. You may have to do this a couple of times depending on how bad smell is. You also want to make sure that when the unit is not in use to keep door cracked open so it can get air flow. Also after you are done with laundry make sure that you wipe out the bellow to keep water from sitting in it.
