I have a frigidaire stove I bought used. The burners work well, they have electric lighters that also work well as well as the oven. the problem is when the burners are on high it starts to smell very strongly of gas. also when I use the oven the smell of gas is very strong (I have not used the oven again for this reason) there is no smell when the stove is not in use, it is only when a burner is first lit and on a high setting. there is usually a faint whisteling sound that accompanies the smell. I have just been using the burners at a low setting. My husband tried checking it out to see where the gas isleaking but we just can't figure it out. we thought we might just buy new burners, but we don't want to buy anything before we figure out waht the problem is. if you have any idea what the problem might be I would really appreciate it. and one more thing, when I use the burns it makes the bottom of my pots and pans very black.
ANSWER Katie, It sounds like you need to convert the range to LP gas supply, or vice versa. The whistling, gas odor, and soot on the bottom of the pans, indicate an improper fuel air mix causing all of your indicated issues. You'll need to determine the type gas supply you have, and check and convert the range. Thanks
