Motor Shaft Seal Motor shaft seal will come mounted on a sleeve; this is to protect the seal surfaces. This sleeve must be removed to install the new seal. Check seal faces to be sure they are both clean and free of any foreign material. Install ceramic half of seal into sump, making sure it bottoms out in sump. Slide top half of seal onto motor shaft making sure it is down and tight and the surfaces are mating properly." The existing plastic sleeve, may be stuck or rounded off on the motor shaft and may be a bit difficult to remove, but it has to be removed inorder to install the bottom half of the seal kit. Thanks and Good Luck
