I know the bearings are shot and i need to replace the rear shell. The problem is I cant get the spider shaft off the shell. I have sprayed it and beat the heck out of it using a hammer and a block of wood. I have been beating it for a few days now. I'm hoping I don't have to by a drum to. Also do I need to put a new o ring on the shell, or is it alright to use a little silicone on top of the old one. thanks. Steve

ANSWER Steve, You would want to get a new o ring and you would not want to use silicone. To get the tub separated, When you are hitting with the hammer and piece of wood, you will want to make sure that the tub is slightly elevated off the ground and that the inner tub can drop about an inch when it comes free. If not doing this way then it will not come loose.
