I have a Kenmore range where the two large surfaces of the cooktop don't turn off. Which part should I replace the Surface Element Switch 316436000 or do I need the Surface Unit Switch Kit 5303935086? What is the difference between these items? Does it matter if it is the large surface or the small surface I'm having an issue with?
ANSWER Hello Doug,
You can test the switches by doing a voltage test on the switch in the off positon. If you are getting 240 vac between H1 and H2 on the switches then the switches need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
