If 2 of the 4 burners ignitors spark and light, but 2 do not spark. Does that mean the top ignitor is bad. If I disconnect the wires and hold them close to metal they spark but not when connected to the burner. Thanks.
ANSWER Hello Alan,
This either means you have a bad ignitor, or you have lost the ground to that ignitor. The ground is established through the metal parts of the body and they tend to loose the ground from spills that get down between the pieces of metal that have to make electrical contact so ground will be present beside the ignitor so the spark can discharge to it. Many times cleaning the unit up by removing screws and panels will re-establish the ground and no parts are necessary. This is assuming of course that the ignitor is good. Any cracks in the ignitors' porcelain insulator requires that the ignitor be replaced.
