Our washer fills and spins, but does not seem to agitate. When I removed the agitator, the coupling seems to spin, but not with the agitator in place. The splines inside of the agitator seem a little worn, but not broken. Will I necessarily need to replace the agitator assembly, or are there any other likely problems that keep the agitator from turning while attached to the coupling? Also, is there a way to get the washer to agitate while the lid is open, so that I can really see what is going on when I close the lid?
ANSWER Hello Alice,
My experience has taught me that even though the inside splines look OK in the coupler WH49X10042, they can in fact be stripped. They aren't stripped completely away, but enough of the "high" parts of the spline teeth will strip and you see splines, but they cannot drive a load.
