Hi, I removed the metal part attached to the lower arm from both sides, because it was making contact with the heating element. Would that affect the performance of the dishwasher or can it cause any problems?
ANSWER Hello Ed,
This will not be an issue at all because when the circulation pump is engaged, water pressure raises the spray arm and causes it to rotate from the pressure being released through the holes in one direction. In other words, the spray arm cannot contact the heating element if the pump is generating water pressure inside the system. The metal parts are, however, necessary to protect the spray arm from the heat generated by the element during the water heating part of the cycle. This heat can cause the spray arm to fail and even split in to if the heat shields are not in place.
