What is the function of the ball bearing. Have replaced it twice for squeaking problems?

ANSWER Hello Sal. The bearing if for tension on the shaft support. If the unit is squeaking, it is best to replace the complete kit WE25X10001 and use alot of the grease in the cup. Hope this helps.
