My maytag electric dryer will start to make a scraping noise toward the
rear of the dryer after it has been on for a short while. Prior to this happening, the dryer belts had started to smell like burned rubber when
the idler pulley became seized due to a lack of lubrication. I lubricated the
spindle that holds the idler pulley with Mobil 1 bearing grease. This solved
the problem for about a day, then the noise I described earlier began. Could
the belt problem have caused another situation on my 40 year old Maytag
DE606. I have not replaced the belts yet, but they were replaced about a year ago. This machine is a beast and I don't want to part with it. Thank you.
ANSWER Hello Dino. It sounds like the rollers and supports may need to be replaced based on the information you provided.
