GE washer makes loud banging during agitation cycle, but no abnormal noise during spin. Could the tub bearing be the problem? If not, any ideas? Thanks.

ANSWER Hi. Remove the agitator and see if the agitator coupler part # WH43X10032 is split. Remove the inner tub and make sure the hub nut part # WH2X1193 on top of the basket hub is tight. Inspect the lower belt part # WH01X10302 for expansion. The lower pulley part nut # WH2X1203 for sloppy play on the transmission shaft. The usual issue being that the outer tub front support rods part # WH16X10057 and the rear rods part # WH16X10141 are needing replaced because the hard work of agitation. Thank You.
