I get a single click sound just as the compressor kicks on. sometimes the compressor stays running but usually it clicks, then runs for a second or two and shuts off. After about 20 seconds it will click again to start the compressor. This can happen from one up to 10 false starts before the compressor remains running for it's full cycle. Fridge and freezer temps are normal, and it is quiet running. Condenser fan was replaced recently and is operating properly. What is the most likely problem?

Brad for Model Number GE refrigerator Model # TBF - 18SE

ANSWER Brad if you can see the condenser fan starting when the compressor is trying to start, I doubt the fan is the issue. That can be verified if the fan stays running once the compressor does start. More than likely you're looking at the compressor on it's way out or possibly the relay and overload, which are the two electrical devices on the side of the compressor which get it going. Could you double check that model #? Having trouble finding that #. There should be a model and serial ID plate on the unit with complete #'s.
