I have a 1998 GE Profile side-by-side (TPX24BRYFBB) that seems to be in great shape, except that lately the cooling system is sometimes not coming back on (causing both the freezer and fresh food sections to get too warm). If I slide the freezer temperature control off and then on (back to the same setting), the cooling system comes on and the temperature returns to normal. All will be good for a day or two, but then the unit gets "stuck" again.
Does this sound familiar? Would the temperature control be the right first target for replacement? I've heard that GE Profile refrigerators have faulty motherboards, but I don't see anything that indicates that my unit has one.
ANSWER Hello Hugh. Yes, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the temperature control WR9X521 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
