Two years ago, solved problem with new controller board and fan from APP (and help from repair board). Same unit having a defrost problem (both fans working, so not previous issue). Manually defrosting unit takes care of issue for weeks or months - then ices up thick and solid again. Either the defrost unit is not working, or not being activated.
As this is an unusually expensive defrost heater (over $150), I want to make sure it's failed before replacing. How do I test the defrost heater. If it's shown bad, what are the steps to replace it? I can see the heater at the bottom of the coil, when I manually defrost the unit.
Thanks for advice -BRN
ANSWER Brian, As intermittent as it is, you most likely have an issue in the control board WR55X10942 or a loose wire or connection in the harness. Of course it's best you wait until it fails, so you can diagnose the heater and thermostat circuits, and check the wiring connectors and multiplugs for loose connections, or ice and water in the connector. Good Luck and Thanks
