I have a french door refrigerator with a bottom freezer. The ice in the Ice Maker Bin melts into a solid mass each night. I can empty it out and it makes ice all day but by the next morning its again frozen into a block.
Based on the information it sounds like when the unit goes into a defrost it is sticking in the defrost cycle. You will want to check to make sure that the defrost thermistor is within range. The defrost theremistor resistance value should be 42.7K ohms at 0 degrees, 14.183K ohms at 37 degrees and 5K ohms at 77 degrees. If not within this range then you would need to replace the thermistor.
