The latch mechanism on my GE gas range is broken (it stays in the locked position) so I couldn't close and open the oven door without manually unlatching it with a coat hanger. How do I replace the latch assembly (part # )? Can you provide a step-by step guide to do this? Thank you for your help.

ANSWER Hello Abe. 1.Remove cooktop and mainfold panel.
2.Remove oven door.
3.Move latch handle to the locked position (Pull lock
hook to left while moving handle to "cheat" mechanism)
4.Remove cover over lock mechanism.
5.Remove lock switch (2 screws)
6.Remove latch handle (2 screws)
7.Remove 2 screws securing lock mechanism to front
frame at the "hook".
8.Remove 1 screw from inside the oven cavity to the left
of broil burner.
9.Remove mechanism.
Note: After installing, rotate locking cam fully clockwise
to prevent low temp. Lock-up.
