Hello. I have a General Electric electric dryer model # posted above that is leaving brown marks on clothes. I have two questions. First, the gap between the steel drum that rotates and the steel edge near the edge of the drum is uneven. It is larger at the bottom than the top (seems like the clothes get stuck in the bottom gap). Is this gap supposed to be even all the way around? If so, it seems my drum has loosened and "fallen" down a bit? Second, is there something that is supposed to block this gap, we can feel something in the gap (is this the upper and lower felt?) but not sure if it has worn away so much that it has exposed that gap and allows clothes to get caught. Thank you!
ANSWER Hello Karen. There are several parts I would replace in this case. First the rear drum bearing kit WE25X10001. This supports the rear of the tub and takes a lot of wear. If the unit is to be torn down, I always install this kit to prevent another tear down in the near future. Next, the front drum slide WE03X10001. This part supports the front of the tub. The other part I would change is the idler pulley WE01X10218. Wear gloves while you're in there to prevent injury from all the sharp edges and have a great day!
