My freezer started thawing about a week ago and then the refridgerator started warming also. There was a loud humming noise coming from the top in back. By slapping where the sound was coming from, the compresser kicked in. This only helped for a short time and it kicked out again. The temp in the freezer reads 56 degrees but it is a lot cooler. The condenser fan is still running but the fan is blowing warm air. Also the cover plate for the motherboard gets very warm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You say that you slap the upper back part of the unit and the unit turned on. This would be caused by a bad main control board which will need to be replaced.
