Water won't drain at all...
When my dishwasher reaches the point in the cycle where it is supposed to drain the water, it just sits quiet. At the end of the cycle it is full of water. The pump itself gets very hot to the touch when it is supposed to be working. There seems to be nothing obstructing the hose, as I can suck the water out through the hose with a shop vac. There was , however, a loud grinding noise that happened during the last cycle the pump worked. Does this sound like a bad pump or a jammed impeller or something completely different?

ANSWER Hello Jeepman47. If there is power to the pump, and it does not run and drain, you will need to order and replace the pump on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
