Is the condenser/compressor cooling fan motor supposed to run constantly when the compressor is running or is it controlled by a temperature sensor. Compressor is running but fan is not. I've been testing the defrost heaters, timer, etc but have now noticed that although the compressor is running and cooling the fridge, the fan near the compressor is not. It was running before I began testing the other components. I believe the motor is good as it was running a day or two ago, running but not really fast.

Edward S. Z for Model Number TFX28PB GE Refrigerator

ANSWER Edward, The condenser fan motor should be operational when the compressor is running. This will allow it to pull the air across the compressor so that it does not overheat. It does sound like the condenser motor has failed and would need to be replaced. As long as there is 120 vac going to the motor then it should run.
