My lower oven bake element burned out and melted completely. I ordered a new one and replaced it in oven. When i turned the sw breaker back on, the oven knob lights (both the bake/broil/clean knob and the temperature knob) stayed lit even in the off position. I shut the switch breaker and removed the element and I read 30 Volts along the wires that connect the element (current there). That must be the reason why the lights stayed on even in the off position. What else can i check on the oven to see why this is happening. The upper oven works fine and the funny thing is the broil element in the lower oven works as it should too. And if I have the baking element disconnected to the wires, the control knobs do not light up and work fine?? Thank you for your help.
The issue would most likely be caused by a faulty thermostat on the unit which could have been damaged when the bake element blew out.
