My GE electric dryer still works fine, except it now emits a high-pitched squeak when the drum rotates. I'd like to repair the problem if I can, but I don't even know where to begin. Can you suggest a place for me to start and also explain how to open the dryer cabinet to get at the parts?
ANSWER Hello Bobby,
There are a couple of things that can cause this. The front bearing slides WE3M26one of these, WE1M504 two of these, WE1M1067 and two of these, can be worn out and the heating element can rub against the back of the drum, or the ground spring that holds the ball in the back of the rear bearing assembly WE25M40 to properly ground the drum can be making the noise. The idler pulley WE12X83 should be checked while the unit is apart.
