Would the tub spinning instead of the agitator indicate a failing transmission? GE Profile top-load washer.

ANSWER Hello Dab. It could be the transmission. First try to see if the motor is running in the same direction during agitation verses spin. If the motor is going in the same direction, you most likely have a bad timer. If the motor is changing directions, you have a bad transmission. Hope this helps.
