I have had this RCA Refrigerator for MANY YEARS but never connected the water supply line to the ice-maker. Today, I connected the supply line and did not have water flow to the ice-maker itself. I removed the back cover and checked all the connections, everything seemed to be in order. Can these water valves go bad from not being used ? Is there a reset switch ? What else could be the problem ?
ANSWER Hello Jay. If the icemaker has been cycling and no water was hooked up, it could have damaged the valve. You will test for power to the valve when the icemaker cycles. If there is power there, and it does not fill, you will replace the water valve. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
