I have a LG Steam Washer model WM2487HWMA. Recently I have notice an extreme amount of vibration during the spin cycle. I checked the level and it was good front to back; side to side; and diagnal. I took the top, front, and rear panels off checked the weights, springs and shock absorbers. Everything appeaps tight and in good condition except I noticedthe drum has a definite lean to the rear of the unit. The rear shock looks good, no leaks. Could the rear shock just be worn and not supporting the drum adequately?

William O. for Model Number WM2487HWMA

ANSWER Hello William, This sounds more like a bearing or spinner support issue. You need to open the door and wiggle the tub toward the top of the unit. Rotate the tub 1/3 of a turn and do it again. Doing this one more time will check the spinner support in all positions. If any of the three positions have a "clunk" or more slop, the spinner support, (spider), will require replacement. This will usually destroy the bearings and the rear outer tub will require replacement also to correct the issue. If you feel roughness while rotating the spin basket by hand, the bearing has failed and the rear half of the outer tub will need to be replaced. Remember that the spinner support is riding on this rear bearing so if it needs to be replaced, the bearing is probably in need of replacement also. Any time parts that ride against one another, the parts should be inspected so the new part will not be damaged by the existing part.
