Hello, my agitator moves in one direction as it should. However, the top portion (under the fabric softener) floats up and down with about 1/4 to 3/8 an inch of travel. This movement creates a "banging" noise while running the machine on full speed during the wash cycle. Should the agitator have this much vertical travel? I checked the drive, belts, transmission and teeth, it is definitely the agitator but I want to make sure it is not how the part was made.

ANSWER Hello Mike. No, the agitator should have a little play in it, but not that much. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the agitator 22004042 is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
