When removing the agitator, this clip fell off along with a white flat piece.

ANSWER DeeDee, the metal clip and the flat plastic disc actually go under the agitator, the plastic disc sets on the top of the tub nut and the metal clip"snaps" onto the agitator shaft, to hold the clip in position. They are not absolutely necessary, they act as a "spacer" for the bottom of the agitator. Once you install the cam/spacer on the top of the lower agitator assembly and the "dog" housing assembly in the auger portion, you slowly and carefully lower and turn the assembly until it sets properly and all the way down, then install the retaining bolt and caps> Good Luck, and Thanks.
