I can't get the nut off. There is a small spline inside the larger spline that is preventing me from getting a socket on the nut. Can that small spline be removed? I tried penetrating oil and heat. Any other advice to loosen the nut?
ANSWER Hi Bill. If there is no way to get the hub nut off, then you need a 12" tall chisel to carefully split the nut in 2. It is part # 40016301. It is under the drive bell and the hub seal. We cannot understand the reason it is not included with the manufacture hub and seal kit. Wear gloves and be sure the chisel does not slip off and into the inner tub side. If you have a portable dremel tool or a 4-1/4" grinder to assist. is another way to remove the nut. Thank You.
