Is it possible for this ball to come free and float up with the water and move against the drum? If so how do I fix this or check to see if something else is floating inside?

ANSWER Hi Steve. If the ball was damaged and the ribs were worn on the inside of the tub to pump hose, they both need replaced. The ball needs to remain floating freely in the top 1/3 of the hose. If it was worked on before, or it was just initially installed wrong this will be the issue. The ball is part # W10121657. The hose is part # 8181732. Thank You.
