The pump quit - 2nd time in 2 weeks. Nothing in the filter the second time, so I removed the drain pipe and flushed it out with a garden hose. Some sludge came out. Cleaned out the hose section inside the washer also which appeared to have a minor sludge blockage at the upper elbow. Could nor rotate the pump impeller freely by reaching through the intake hole. Only moved partial revolution. Normal? Should I check the ball and black rubber drain hose or go straight to testing the pump motor?

ANSWER Hello Dave. It is normal for the drain pump to not turn freely and you should feel the magnets in the pump causing some resistance in the unit. It sounds like you cleared the issue when you washed the drain hose out and removed the sludge.
