Hi! I have a question regarding the spin cycles on my Whirlpool Gold top load washer. The first issue we noticed was that the clothes were coming out very wet; the pump was working fine and draining the tub, but it wasn't spinning. I checked and replaced the drive coupler (worn but not broken). The unit seemed to run fine for a few days, then the issue recurred. I ordered and replaced the clutch assembly, but my test run revealed a problem. I ran the unit through a cycle with the lid open and switch manually held closed so I could observe the cycle. I noticed that at the end of the wash/agitation stage, the motor would run and the pump would remove the water, but the basket would not spin. I opened the switch (as though I would be opening the lid) and closed it again, and the basket started to spin without issue. The same thing happened at the end of the rinse cycle...pump comes on and starts emptying the basket, but does not spin until I release the switch and then close it again, then it works fine. The high spin cycle starts and runs fine. It seems to me that the basket brake may not be disengaging properly until the lid switch is opened. Does the basket brake engage during the agitation cycles to prevent the basket from turning during agitation? It appears to be the case since it's only after agitation that the spin does not occur...when going from the rinse spin to high spin it works fine. If that's the case, what could be the culprit with the brake? Weak spring? Any help is greatly appreciated!

ANSWER Hello Luke. Check and make sure you installed the clutch properly into the unit. If so, then it does sound like the basket drive 285792 will need to be replaced.
