Dave for Model Number whirlpool la5200xtw0

ANSWER Dave, Drive tube bearings 285203, when they fail or start to fail are usually accompanied by quite a bit of noise, everything between a squealing noise to a loud thumping or grumbling noise. And the deposits on the agitator and shaft, could be from fabric softener, soil, etc. from the clothes washing process. Before dismantling the tubs and transmission, you may want to check the brake shoes and rollers 285438 and make sure there is no "drag" on the system, and suspect the timer 3946434 may be making a dual contact and causing the motor to overheat and "stall" at the start of the spin cycle.
