The freezer coils in my Whirlpool fridge MBR1953WES2 keep freezing up. I have located the service manual in the bottom of the fridge and can force defrost the fridge using the FD code. The fridge will continue to operate fine as long as I force defrost the fridge daily, if not the coils will freeze up again. Through the notes here it appears that the control board AP4366538 is fine as I can force defrost the fridge. So is the problem the defrost timer or defrost thermostat? If so, is AP4310486 the part that I need to replace?

ANSWER Hello Richard. Based on the information you provided, if the unit has to be manually defrosted to clear the ice off the coils, you will need to order and replace the electronic control 12784415 in the unit. It is bad and is not going into the defrost cycle like it should and will need to be replaced. This is used as the defrost timer for this model.
