I have a Maytag top loading washer LAT8826AAE and am hearing a knocking noise during the wash cycle. I removed the front panel and found this noise coincides with the slight back-and forth movement (a couple of degrees) of the transmission. Could this be a transmission issue or a brake assembly? Along with an earlier question about horizontal wear marks inside the tub cover, I may need to replace the mounting stem and possibly a tub bearing. Are these repairs possible to perform with only a moderate amount of mechanical experience with the only special tool being a spanner wrench? Thanks!
Gary for Model Number LAT8826AAE
ANSWER Hello Gary,
This will have nothing to do with the mounting stem and bearing. The issue you describe is a brake 6-2011900 issue.
