It seem that it doesn't come with the stem to the top, on or off. My stem when turning it just goes around & around. The question is, is it part #AP3119578 that controls that piece {the stem that turn the gas on & off}?

ANSWER Stuart, It sounds like you are looking for a top burner gas valve 9753044(example only) This is the component that turns the gas off and on, controls the flame size, and has a stem. Thanks and Good Luck
