The compressor and fan runs constantly. The freezer side stays very cold and food on the refrigerator side freezes. I have both the refrigerator and freezer sides set to 0 (off) but the compressor and fan continue to run. Is this a sign that the thermostat is bad? If so, it looks easy to replace but I have a question about the capillary tube. Does it just pull out or is it connected to anything on the freezer side?
ANSWER Hello Richard,
This does sound like the thermostat is bad since it should go off when set to the off position. The freezer end of the capillary sets in a very specific position in order to properly sense the temperature. It doesn't "connect" but has to be in a specified spot to control the temperature correctly.
