I have a Kenmore dryer. The igniter comes on but there is no gas. I was told that these coils are the problem. Is that right?
ANSWER Yes, typically one of the coils would get bad and won't energize enough to open the gas valve. There is no accurate way to test which coil is bad, so both are replaced at the same time. That's why they come as a kit of two. It's fairly simple to replace the coils. Make sure to unplug the dryer power cord and turn off the gas to the dryer (there's usually a shut off valve behind the dryer) before doing any repairs.
