I have a stacked Maytag Washer/Dryer. The igniter glows bright red and then shuts down and restarts a few seconds later, over and over , with no flame. It will do this over and over If I allow it.
I do hear a click and smell a little gas.. So what I do is I blow towards the igniter on the second attempt to light right after I hear the click (of the coil I presume) and I get the flame to come on and it stays on for the entire cycle.
I know its a little wierd, but it does get my clothes to dry!
From what Ive read and seen, its seems like its the coils and thats what I plan on replacing unless you think it could be something else? I was also wondering if it is the gas/air ratio that looks to be adjustable on what i think is the burner assembly.
I have repositioned the unit in the past week (its tight in a closet) by moving it a few inches over and back, Im wondering if that could have something to do with it or just a coincedence
This sounds like a weak ignitor that is cuasing the issue. When the ignitor lights up and then turns off it is generally happening due to a hairline crack that is opening the ignitor. When you blow across the ignitor it allows the heat to go across the flame sensor in turn supplying power to the gas valves and they open. You will want to replace the ignitor.
