I ordered a new thermostat and just put it on. I let it fun for a hour or so and still no cold anywhere. The fan runs but the compressor does not kick on. After a hour or so, I plugged in the compressor and it did seem hot. I could hold my hand on it for only a few seconds. I dont know how hot it should even be. Can you help me? Thanks so much!
ANSWER Hello Kerry,
This sounds like you either have a bad start device 819100 on the compressor, or a bad compressor. Unplug the unit and take the bottom panel off of the back. Remove the start device from the compressor. You do not have to disconnect the wires. Shake the start device. If the start device rattles, it is bad and will require replacement. The start device has a ceramic disc inside it that will shatter if it gets too hot when it has aged and fatigued.
