What would cause the connecting rack part #AP3879382 to break on the transmission and how do I replace it?

ANSWER Hello. If the connecting rack 8546456 is broke, it is usually caused by binding in the transmission and the bottom pinion would need to be replaced 285515. With this part being discontinued, the only repair is to replace the gear box assembly 3360629. Hope this helps.
