The dispenser on the door quit working entirely but the ice maker still continued to make and drop ice cubes into the bin. The ice maker had a leak so I replaced it and also replaced the control board in the door dispenser. As soon as I plugged it in, the light bulb started blinking and something popped and started smoking. New control board was fried. What could be causing this? Should I have changed the wires also?
ANSWER Josieb, There are two possibilities, for a new dispenser control board to burn, The ice door flapper solenoid 12001991 is defective and has "backfired" voltage to the control board. The actuator/limit switch 61005520 has a low circuit short in it and is feeding more than 3.5 VAC back to the board, causing it to burn. Yes, you do want to check the wiring and make sure nothing is pinched, shorted, or touching. Thanks and Good Luck
