My Maytag refrigerator runs all the time, but will only cool the freezer to approximately 32 degrees and the rest of the refrigerator at approximately 50 degrees. A repair man told me he replaced the defrost timer, but he also told me that he added R134a. My refrigerator does not have a freon service port! Nothing freezes up and there are no blockages or dirt on the coils. The fans run. Could this be the temperature control? I bought the control from this source, but have not installed it. When installing should the control knob be rotated fully clockwise, fully counter-clockwise, or to some other position. Should I look elsewhere for the problem? Thank you. I already tried a service man and had the experience described above. This refrigerator is like new and it would be a shame to send it to the dump.

ANSWER Hello Zack, This sounds like a sealed system issue to me. You have either lost freon or there is a sealed system restriction which is not allowing freon circulation within the sealed system. The rear wall of the freezer compartment should be removed. The frost pattern on the evaporator coils should cover most of the coils. If there is an ice ball at the top, you have a freon loss and repair may not be financially feasible.
