any idea how long /difficulty of installing a new glass top? l just cracked the glass on my kitchen aid cook top...crying has not fixed it, so now Im debating buying a whole new unit or ordering the glass top. I would like to install it myself. Any idea about the tools...etc needed as well?

ANSWER Rachel, The hardest part of the repair is raising or removing the cooktop from the countertop. Here are some instructions for you. " CAUTION: When you work on the cooktop, be careful when handling the sheet metal parts. Sharp edges may be present, and you can cut
yourself if you are not careful. 1. Turn off the electrical power to the cooktop. 2. Remove the control knobs from the control stems.
3. Remove the fourteen (14) screws from the ceramic glass maintop frame and lift the maintop off the burner box. NOTE: If you are replacing the maintop, remove the four rubber grommets from the control stem holes." There are no "special" tools required to do this repair, and it shouldn't take long at all.
