The ice crusher doesn't snap into place, hence the 2 cams that interface to turn the auger don't properly engage and skip over each other. Motor runs fine, and I can see that the ice bucket rocks in place when the dispenser is activated. Is it a big job to swap out the auger, spring and push lever on the interlock? This is a Kitchenaid manufactured in 02 by Whirlpool I believe.
ANSWER Hello Paul,
The first thing that you want to check if the bin is rocking is to make sure that the lower part of cam does not have ice build up and that it is pushing up and down freely. The cam has a spring under it and it can get stuck with ice causing it to not go down. To replace the spring and push lever is not difficult. You push the lever in and get the grooves in line with the slots to pull out.
