Hi, Occasionally the motor hums then cuts out when going into a cycle. If I "grab" the motor and jiggle it as to re-seat it, the washing machine will work again. The motor runs fine out of machine. It seems that something periodically binds causing the overheat safety to kick in. Is it possible for the 4 grommets and or the springs the hold the motor in place lose their stability over time causing the motor to move? I did replace the whole coupler assembly and the water pump thinking they might be causing the problem. Thanks!

ANSWER John, Worn grommets or springs wouldn't cause the motor to stall or hum, it may make a little clunking noise. It could be an intermittent voltage situation. You have to maintain a minimum voltage of 105 VAC at the outlet when the motor starts, especially in the spin cycle start, have you noticed if the lights in the room dim or brighten, when this occurs, that's a good indication of a voltage issue. When you jiggle the motor, you're most likely causing the switch to close completely and the motor to run. If it's not due to a voltage issue, then it's a faulty motor switch and the motor will need replacement.
