Having the F-21 code, we cleaned out the trap part of the drain pump but continue to have this fault. I followed the manual and unplugged it to reset it and spin out the cycle. Sometimes I hear a noise from the pump that sounds like it may be tripping or shorting out? I let it sit for a few minutes and it will take off and finish out the cycle. The pump says it has a removeable filter. How do you get to it and clean it? Is the pump going bad?

ANSWER Hello Kay, The removable trap part of the pump is the removable screen referred to in the manual. If cleaning the trap has not corrected your issue and you have checked the hose between the outer tub and the pump, this issue will most likely be a bad pump. When debris gets into the trap and clogs the unit, if the drain pump is running while an item gets into the pump impeller, it will damage the impeller, sometimes breaking off a blade, sometimes separating the impeller from the motor shaft. If an item has been in the impeller holding the motor where it cannot turn while it is energized, this can damage the pump motor electrically. In any of these cases, replacing the drain pump is usually the cure.
