We have a Kenmore gas dryer and have just changed the thermal fuse but are still having problems. When we try to put the dryer on it hums and doesn't turn if we move the drum it turns on and after a little while it will go off. Could it be the motor if not any suggestions as to what it could be?
ANSWER Hello Judee,
You have a bad winding in the motor 279787. This will cause it not to start and it will make it run hot if you help it. The overload on the side of the motor will kick off and turn the motor off when enough temperature is accumulated.
It would be a good idea to check for exhaust duct restrictions as excessive heat being held in the unit will cause premature electronic component failure. This would explain the thermal fuse failure and the motor failure. If the issue is not addressed, you will continue having dryer problems........even if you get a different dryer!
